Invitation to Merit-Making Ceremony on Magha Puja Day
We cordially invite all Buddhists to join the merit-making and almsgiving ceremony on the auspicious occasion of Magha Puja Day.
Date: Sunday, March 1, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: Wat Tulsa Hansen Dhammanusorn
Schedule:
Paying Respects: Pay homage to the Buddha and receive the Five Precepts.
Chanting: Listen to the chanting of sacred Buddhist prayers.
Almsgiving: Offer food and alms to the monks.
Offering Lunch: Present lunch to the Sangha (Monks).
Rejoicing of Merit: Receive blessings from the monks.
Circumambulation (Wien Tien): Join the candle-lit procession around the chapel.
Let us gather to do good deeds, purify our minds, and find inner peace together
Makha Bucha Day is one of the most significant days in Buddhism, often referred to as the "Fourfold Assembly" (Caturongphasannibat) because of four miraculous events that occurred simultaneously during the Buddha's time:
1,250 monks gathered to see the Buddha without any prior appointment.
All of them were "Ehi Bhikkhu Upasampada" (ordained directly by the Buddha).
All of them were Arahants (Enlightened ones) who possessed the Six Higher Powers.
It occurred on the full moon day of the third lunar month.
The Heart of Buddhism
On this day, the Buddha delivered the "Ovadapatimokkha," which outlines the three core principles of Buddhist practice:
To avoid all evil (Sabba papassa akaranam).
To do good (Kusalassupasampada).
To purify one's mind (Sacitta pariyodapanam).
Traditional Activities
Merit-making: Giving food to monks in the morning.
Listening to Sermons: To gain wisdom and apply Dhamma to daily life.
Observing Precepts: Practicing meditation and mindfulness.
Wien Tien (Candlelight Procession): Walking around the temple's chapel three times in the evening to honor the Triple Gem (The Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha).
